Ojibway Prayer

Look at our brokenness.
We know that in all creation
Only the human family
Has strayed from the Sacred Way.
We know that we are the ones
Who are divided
And we are the ones
Who must come back together
To walk the Sacred Way.

Grandfather, Sacred One,
Teach us love, compassion and honor
That we may heal the earth
And heal each other.

A Native American Prayer

Mohawk Prayer

Oh Great Spirit, Creator of all things;
Human Beings, trees, grass, berries.
Help us, be kind to us.
Let us be happy on earth.
Let us lead our children
To a good life and old age.
These our people; give them good minds
To love one another.

Oh Great Spirit,
Be kind to us
Give these people the favor
To see green trees,
Green grass, flowers, and berries
This next spring;
So we all meet again
Oh Great Spirit,
We ask of you.

Eternit in France

Asbestos demonstration Paris, October 2012
("Asbestos kills = 3,000 deaths a year)
Eternit and the Great Asbestos Trial
Editors: David Allen and Laurie Kazan-Allen

On 13 February 2012, the verdict of the “trial of the century” was delivered against Stephan Schmidneiny and Louis de Cartier de Marchienne, the principal directors of the Swiss asbestos-cement company, Eternit.  The book, “Eternit and the Great Asbestos Trial” was published by associations for the defense of asbestos victims in 11 countries. It describes Eternit and its owners, the Schmidheiny family, the activism in Casale, Italy, which led to the trial, the implications of the trial, and what is happening in other countries where Eternit factories were located and judicial actions there. Following is an excerpt from the book on Eternit’s asbestos-cement factories in France. The book is available for free on Scribd.com and has been translated into other languages. (See also International Ban Asbestos Secretariat which describes what is happening regarding asbestos worldwide.)

As introduction, here is a brief portrait of the asbestos tragedy in France:  In 1976, asbestos was classified as carcinogenic in France, but its use was banned only in 1997.  Some 2,000 persons died in 1996 from asbestos-related illnesses.  The number could reach 5,000 by the year 2020.  Mortality continues to increase in younger people:  between 1990-93, over 138,000 workers were exposed to asbestos in the building, naval construction, metallurgy and other industries.  (Ref: "La Société Cancérigène" by Geneviève Barbier and Armand Farrachi, 2004.)

Eternit - Killer Fiber

The tragic story of asbestos, extending over decades, parallels the one unfolding for electromagnetic (EM) radiation emitted by wireless technologies.  It is fitting that the first trial in Europe linking use of mobile phones to an employee's brain tumor has taken place in Italy, where the "trial of the century" against Eternit and asbestos was held.  This is a subject very close to my heart.  My companion, Adon, died from mesothelioma due to asbestos exposure three years ago.

Eternit – La Fibre Tueuse (Killer Fiber) – by Giampiero Rossi – 2008, with update 2012 (in Italian and French)

This excellent book tells the story of the courageous fight of the workers at Eternit’s asbestos-cement factory in Casale, Italy, which led to the “trial of the century”, condemning two of the Swiss multinational’s directors.

The book begins with the tragic story of Romana Blasotti Pavesi from Casale. In 1954, Romana’s husband, Mario, got a job at the Eternit factory in Casale. For decades, working at the factory meant security – a fixed monthly salary and retirement benefits, and prestige. Mario “retired” in 1977 after 35 cysts were discovered. Afterwards, he began to experience pain in his back which led to a diagnosis of mesothelioma, cancer of the pleura. He died in 1983 at the age of 61.

In 1989, Romana’s sister, Librera, was diagnosed with mesothelioma and died at age 59. Her husband and son worked for a pipe factory which used asbestos. Afterwards, Romana’s cousin, Anna, died of mesothelioma. She lived near Salonit, an Eternit factory located in the region of Gorizia. Then, Giorgio, Libera’s son, died. He had worked in a factory making tires, using asbestos. In 2004, six months after Giorgio’s death, Romana’s daughter, Maria Rosa, was diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Chernobyl: The Great Cover-up

For 50 years dangerous concentrations of radionuclides have been accumulating in earth, air and water from weapons testing and reactor incidents. Yet serious studies of the effects of radiation on health have been obscured – not least by the World Health Organisation.

Chernobyl:  The Great Cover-up
by Alison Katz, Le Monde Diplomatique, April 2008

In June 2007 Gregory Hartl, World Health Organisation (WHO) spokesman for Sustainable Development and Healthy Environments, claimed that the proceedings of the international conference held in Geneva in 1995 on the health consequences of the Chernobyl disaster had been duly published (1). This was not so. And the proceedings of the Kiev conference in 2001 have never been published either. Challenged by journalists a few months later, the WHO repeated the claim, providing references to a collection of abstracts for the Kiev conference and just 12 articles (out of hundreds) submitted to the Geneva conference.

10 Creepy Similarities Between Mobile Phones and Cigarettes

Phones And Smokes : 10 Creepy Similarities
by RMR, posted on Techtree, 15 November 2012

The parallels between mobile phones and cigarettes are on many planes.

We'd all agree that cell phones are addictive: Most of us feel pangs of some sort if we're kept away from them for extended periods. But I've noticed that the similarities between these two objects of passionate desire are disturbingly broad-ranging. Here are ten.

1. Addiction
First up is the most obvious: Cigarettes and phones are both addictive. Here's a sober quote I found about this: "Cell phone dependency is now called compulsive communicating. Chain diallers call continually to get another fix." One statistic — for what it's worth — is from a survey commissioned by T-Mobile: "63% of smartphone users would climb through trash to find a lost phone." That's quite a bit like people on railway platforms looking for cigarette butts.

Cell Phones May Be Linked to Breast Cancer

This article on the potential link between cell phones and breast cancer comes from the U.S. mainstream media, CBS News. The news video is excellent.  Click on the link at the end of this article  to view the video.

Breast Surgeon Lisa Bailey says cell phone-related breast cancer may be common. But doctors rarely ask about phones.  I have been writing time and again to the Onco-gynecology Department of Geneva's University Hospital (HUG) to draw this to the attention of doctors.  Geneva is seeing a high rate of breast cancer among young women.  Their response is one of scepticism, however, at least they are reading my messages!

Cell Phones May Be Linked To Breast Cancer For Some
by Stephanie Stahl, CBS News Baltimore, 20 November 2012

PHILADELPHIA (CBS Philadelphia) – Some doctors say there’s a potential link between cell phones and breast cancer, for certain women. They’re seeing evidence of breast cancer that could be connected to where some women keep their mobile phones.

Cell phones in bras: It’s where some women tuck them, if they don’t have pockets or a purse.

It might be convenient, but 21-year-old Tiffany Frantz fears keeping her cell phone in her bra caused breast cancer. She ended up having a mastectomy.

The Toxic Effect of VTech Tablets on Factory Workers and the Development of Young Children

Last night, I received the following message from a young boy in the Philippines:

"IT seems parents are the one who are killing us kids because we are being addicted to playing angry birds, fruit ninja, etc. Now please, STOP buying tablets for us!!! i'm david brendia of philippines age 8."

And from a parent:

"We parents should be the first to protect our children's welfare & future but it seems we are the one destroying them. save our children, ban all tabs!"

I am extremely grateful to these persons for speaking up.

After a Facebook contact called the VTech Inno Tab 2 tablet a piece of “carcinogenic technojunk”, I decided to research this gadget that will be placed under many Christmas trees this season. Wading through dozens of references on Google, I could find no information on the composition of these products, just a vague mention of plastic and rubber. Almost all sites promoted the positive features of these tablets, inciting parents to buy them for their kids. At $80 per gadget, this means big bucks for Vtech and retailers. French-speaking Switzerland’s most popular consumer magazine, “Bon à Savoir” (391,000 readers) promotes the Vtech tablet as a popular Christmas gift for children, comparing only prices in various stores, with no mention of its “toxic” effects on factory workers producing these gadgets, or on the development of young children.

The 7 Worst Things About McDonald's

(Photo:  Jason Patrick Ross /Shutterstock.com)
Forcing employees to work on Christmas without overtime pay is just the beginning. Workers receive unfair wages.  McDonald's marketing to children is "creepy and predatory".  It has been using "pink slime" in its chicken nuggets, a substance derived from mechanically separated chicken parts.  Its hamburgers do not decompose.

The 7 Worst Things About McDonald's
by Laurent Kelley, AlterNet.org, 24 December 2012

McDonald’s has become synonymous with food that’s terrible for you, low-wage jobs and overzealous marketing to children. Largely that’s because of McDonald’s scale; the company serves more customers each day than the entire population of Great Britain, and it hires some one million workers each year (reportedly one in eight Americans have been employed by McDonald’s).

Generation X'd Out: An End to the Human Race as We've Known It?

"The scientific evidence is massive and irrefutable. Our little ones face a lifetime of disability, pain and deprivation from ever-increasing torrents of man-made, commercial radiation capable of destroying human genetic integrity. If you believe that humanity should NOT be reduced to a species of genetic freaks on the way to extinction, assist the radiation awareness movement by doing your own research and then sharing with others the documented information on wireless hazards to human DNA.

"There is no time to waste while confronted with the life-and-death issues associated with the brazen wireless radiation assault upon our kids. Our mission requires persistence, patience and sacrifice. It is high time that we speak up and take action now—for the sake of the helpless and the unborn. What we do and say today will hugely affect generations to come."

Nuclear Roulette by Gar Smith
Foreword by Jerry Mander & Ernest Callenbach
Pub Date: November 1, 2012

A False Solution to Energy Needs
Nuclear power is not clean, cheap, or safe. With Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima, the nuclear industry’s record of catastrophic failures now averages one major disaster every decade. After three US-designed plants exploded in Japan, many countries moved to abandon reactors for renewables. In the United States, however, powerful corporations and a compliant government still defend nuclear power—while promising billion-dollar bailouts to operators.

Boeing Uses Potatoes Instead of People to Test Wi-Fi

Boeing 787 Dreamliner
UPDATED: 31 January 2013:
This is the ultimate in disregard for our health : Boeing testing in-flight Wi-Fi with sacks of potatoes, saying the potatoes’ ‘interactions’ with electronic signals mimic those of the human body. All Boeing is concerned about is for people to get the strongest possible Wi-Fi signal in the air. So, now we humans are reduced to sacks of potatoes!

Boeing filled airplane passenger seats with 20,000 lbs (9,000 kg) of potatoes in sacks to test Wi-Fi.  One person has commented on WEEP News that perhaps the problems with the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner have to do with Wi-Fi, however, it's not clear that Wi-Fi is actually available on these new planes, except for Qatar Airways.  View this Boeing video of Wi-Fi testing.

Vienna Medical Association Calls for Cell Phone-Free Zones in Public Spaces

from Alex Swinkels, International EMF Alliance, The Netherlands, 6 December 2012 (Google translation – the editor of this blog has taken the liberty of correcting the English.)

People need to be made aware of the use of mobile technology – recycling measures required

Vienna (OTS) – The Vienna Medical Association has called for the establishment of cell phone-free zones, similar to the smoke-free areas in public buildings. This was necessary in order both to minimize radiation exposure and to make people aware of the use of mobile technology, says the Head of Environmental Medicine at the Vienna Medical Chamber, Piero Lercher.

The judgment of the Italian High Court that excessive calls with mobile and cordless phones can cause an 80 percent disability, clearly demonstrates the related health risks. In its view, it was “extremely serious” that medical health advice and recommendations were ignored. Action must be generated by court decisions.

The Boss of Belgacom (Belgian Telecoms Operator) Explains to School Children that GSM is Dangerous

The spokesperson for Belgacom (Belgian operator), while trying to minimize scientific knowledge about the danger of cell phones, confirms in the press that its director, Didier Bellens, has switched off Wi-Fi and limits his cell phone use which he qualifies as dangerous. He reminds people of the position of WHO which classified waves from cell phones as 2B - “possibly carcinogenic”. Didier Bellens initiates schoolchildren in the dangers of the Internet. He explains to children that GSM is bad and dangerous to health.

Generation X-Ray: Child Victims of Technological Abuse

The following article on the dangers of wireless technology for children sums up just about every post on the subject that is on this blog. It was written in 2008 and most of what Ms. Worthington says remains true today.

In his speech to the people of Newtown on 16 December 2012, President Obama said: “We bear responsibility for every child. Our first task is to care for our children. This is how by a society we will be judged. Are we doing enough to keep children safe from harm? The answer is no. We are not doing enough.” Assaulting children with harmful microwave radiation is a form of violence. Thank you to “In These New Times” where I first saw the article.

"The sad reality, according to decades of science and supporting evidence in the field, is that legions of those hooked on wireless technology have already begun a painful march to their graves. Like smokers who light up during the final gasping stages of emphysema, it’s a fair guess that a person who becomes a “chain dialer” in his youth, won’t lay down his cell phone until the undertaker pries it from his cold, dead fingers, long deformed by the clutching reflex."

Letter from the American Academy of Pediatrics to U.S. Representative Dennis Kucinich, Endorsing the Cell Phone Right to Know Act

December 12, 2012
The Honorable Dennis Kucinich
2445 Rayburn House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Representative Kucinich:

On behalf of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a non-profit professional organization of 60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults, I would like to share our support of H.R. 6358, the Cell Phone Right to Know Act.

The AAP strongly supports H.R. 6358’s emphasis on examining the effects of radiofrequency (RF) energy on vulnerable populations, including children and pregnant women. In addition, we are pleased that the bill would require the consideration of those effects when developing maximum exposure standards.

 Right to Know Act
Children, Women More Vulnerable to Cell Phone Radiation

Washington D.C. (December 13, 2012) – The American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP) which represents “60,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults” has endorsed H.R. 6358, the Cell Phone Right to Know Act.

See AAP’s letter of support here.

“Health effects from cell phone radiation are a potential concern for everyone that uses a cell phone, but children are among the most vulnerable as the doctors note in the letter. I am honored that such esteemed professionals support the Cell Phone Right to Know Act,” said Kucinich. “Our coalition is growing and broadening.”

The Cell Phone Right to Know Act, H.R. 6358, provides for warning labels on cell phones. It would also create a new national research program to study cell phones and health and require the Environmental Protection Agency to update the outdated Specific Absorption Rate.

Fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) "Deeply Flawed"

Some disturbing changes in the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), to be published in May 2013. For instance, kids’ temper tantrums have been turned into a mental disorder:  "disruptive mood dysregulation disorder".  Read one doctor's critique here (Psychology Today - DSM-5 in Distress, by Dr. Allen Frances, who chaired the DSM-IV Task Force and is currently Professor Emeritus at Duke University.)

Big Changes in Psychiatry's 'Bible' of Disorders

Reviewed by Louise Chang, MD

Dec. 3, 2012 -- A major revision to the diagnostic "bible" -- which defines what is and what is not a mental illness -- has the final approval of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).

The approval means the final draft of the fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM-5, will be official when it is published in May 2013.

Ten years in the making, the rewritten manual has been embroiled in controversy. One outspoken critic is Allen J. Frances, MD, chair of the task force that developed the previous edition, DSM-IV.

In a critique published online by Psychology Today, Frances calls the DSM-5 "deeply flawed," with "changes that seem clearly unsafe and scientifically unsound."

"Full Body Burden" - Growing Up in the Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats

“Full Body Burden – Growing Up in the Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats”, the story of the nuclear weapons plant at Rocky Flats, Colorado, is a tale of government and industry denial and cover-up, corporate greed, a public health and environmental contamination scandal.

The book, by Kristen Iversen, is both the author’s personal account of growing up in Arvada, Colorado, near the Rocky Flats plant and an "intimate  history of the plant's environmental abuses."

The Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant, located in the region of Arvada, Boulder and Denver, Colorado, produced plutonium “triggers” for nuclear bombs. From 1952 to 1989, the foundry produced over 70,000 plutonium triggers, “each one containing enough breathable particles of plutonium to kill every person on earth” and costing $4 million per piece. The plant, one of 13 nuclear weapons facilities in the U.S. during the Cold War period, was owned by the Atomic Energy Commission and operated by Dow Chemical Company.

The population living in the area of the Rocky Flats – some 200,000 to 300,000 persons - was not told about plans to build the facility or what the plant would produce. Information regarding the known and unknown health risks to workers and local residents and environmental contamination was strictly classified. People were told that the plant would not give off “dangerous wastes” and that “atomic bombs would not be built at the plant.”

The Case Against Wi-Fi in Schools in Israel

Dafna Tachover relates the sequence of actions in the fight with the Israeli Government for a ban on Wi-Fi in schools and for acknowledgement of electrohypersensitivity (EHS). While there has been a first written acknowledgement of the Government of EHS and some change regarding Wi-Fi in schools, the change does not call for a complete ban. On 1 October, the Ministry of Education issued a decree to ban Wi-Fi in school with exceptions. An Answer to the Government’s response has been submitted claiming that the decree is unsatisfactory. Oral arguments are scheduled for 6 February 2013. We wish Dafna and those helping her success in achieving “a complete ban in all schools, without ANY exceptions, and immediate enforcement of the ban so no child will be radiated with Wi-Fi while in school.”

Update – The Case Against WiFi in Schools in Israel
by Dafna Tachover, EHS Fights Back, 10 December 2012

In May I started to fight the Israeli Government against WiFi in schools and for acknowledgement of EHS. The correspondence led to the first written acknowledgment of the Government of EHS and to some change in the policy regarding WiFi in schools, however, that change was insufficient as the only reasonable policy is a complete ban of WiFi in schools. Therefore, on August 29th, 2012, I submitted a case to the Israeli Supreme Court against the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environmental Protection asking the court to order a ban of WiFi in Schools.

Documentary "Dust to Dust - the Health Effects of 9/11"

“Dust to Dust”, a 58-minute documentary produced by Bruce Kennedy and Heidi Dehncke-Fisher, is a tribute to the first responders of 9/11.  It describes their very serious health problems following clean-up of the toxic wreckage of the World Trade Center and the cover-up by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency of the extreme hazardous contamination in the days immediately following the attacks “in order to get Wall Street – and the economy – up and running”.  Attention, the film shows the towers on fire and collapsing.  (The film is available on You Tube under copyright for limited viewing.)

Three hundred forty-three (343) firemen and paramedics and 78 police officers were killed on 11 September 2001.  Some 18,000 persons have since received medical treatment for illnesses related to toxic dust from the World Trade Center site. The New York State Department of Health has documented at least 204 deaths of rescue and recovery workers since September 11, 2001.  The Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association stated earlier this year that 65 officers have died from cancer, at an average age of 44.

Smart meters: Quebec’s "health tax" challenged

Adapted from La Maison du 21e siècle magazine, Winter 2013 issue
by André Fauteux, Editor

Gaétane Boucher has lost everything: her family, her home, her job. While living in Granby, Quebec, the former industrial designer constantly suffered from severe headaches, numbness, dizziness, blurry vision and memory loss she related to electromagnetic field (EMF) exposure. "As a child, I lived in a house with radiant electric heating in the ceiling and I played regularly under powerlines - feet in the water to boot! - for 10 summers. I later acquired my electrosensitivity symptoms after working on a computer 8-10 hours a day for many years."

Diagnosis recognized

Ms. Boucher suffers from chronic fatigue syndrome, accompanied by chemical intolerance and electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS). This heavy diagnosis was recognized in 2006 by the Quebec Office for People with Disabilities (OPHQ). The 48-year-old woman thus receives a disability pension of $ 797 per month.

How Syngenta Poisons People and the Environment

The toxic pesticide, atrazine, is banned in Switzerland, home of its manufacturer, Syngenta. The company reported over $13 billion in revenue in 2011. Dr. Warren Porter, Professor of Molecular and Environmental Toxicology at UW-Madison, has been studying atrazine's effects since the early 1990s. According to Dr. Porter, "There are neurological risks, learning disabilities, aggression level changes, immune suppression, and hormone changes like thyroid hormone. Probably the most significant... is the impact of atrazine on the estrogen levels in the body. This causes alteration of sexual development... Our society may be sexually assaulting our children before they're even born. ... What you're doing is you're not only changing the way they develop sexually, but you're also reducing their ability to reproduce."

Anxiety, Stress and Depression Have Grown Exponentially Among North American College Students

What’s behind the rising rates of depression among Canada’s college students?
by Lauren Bailey, Career Options Magazine, 24 September 2012

Concerns for the mental health of college students in North America have been steadily rising in recent years. Professionals report that anxiety, stress and depression have grown exponentially across campuses, and some colleges are finding themselves ill-equipped to help the rising number of students who struggle with mental illnesses.

A 2011 survey of 1,600 University of Alberta students reported that 50 percent had felt hopeless within a 12-month period. Over half felt overwhelming anxiety, and seven percent admitted to seriously considering suicide. Ryerson University’s Centre for Student Development and Counselling in Toronto saw a 200 percent increase in demand from students in crisis situations in the past year.

ARA's brochure
(Awareness materials in French are
available here on ARA's site.)

Recently, I went to a senior activity place in Geneva to leave the brochure of a wireless safety advocacy group (ARA - www.alerte.ch) for participants in a workshop on how to use cell phones.  I believed that sharing this brochure with the parents and grandparents of children who use this wireless technology would help raise awareness of this issue with both generations.  Imagine my disappointment – and shock – when the person responsible for the workshop would not allow me to leave the brochure for the event, nor anywhere on the premises of the senior center!  The center is subsidized by the City of Geneva which is very pro-wireless:  Wi-Fi has been installed in over 250 places in the city:  nearly all the municipal libraries, parks, theaters, social centers, hospitals … and soon in public transport etc.   This is a public health issue and it is scandalous and irresponsible on the part of the political and health authorities to ignore it.

To be fair, the persons responsible at the senior center suggested a debate between young users of wireless technology and people who understand that there is a health risk.  Also, the cover of the advocacy group’s brochure is provocative:  it shows a cell phone being held to one’s head like a gun and says, “Telephomania and WiFimania can seriously harm your health.”

Do Wi-Fi-enabled Laptops Kill Sperm?

In 2011, a group of Argentine scientists published research in the respected journal Fertility and Sterility about the danger in how electromagnetic radiation in Wi-Fi-enabled laptops can kill sperm. Keeping a cell phone in one's pocket also damages sperm.  See also the post from 1 December 2011

Decline in French Sperm Count Should Be Considered Global Warning

A study, published in the journal Human Reproduction, revealing a significant decline in sperm concentration among French men should be considered a health warning, and could be linked to environmental factors, say its authors. Regarding environmental factors, an article in the Tribune de Genève about the study stated: “Studies have mentioned a correlation with smoking, the consumption of saturated fats or even the use of Wi-Fi!” Perhaps Geneva is waking up!  Read the next post.
Decline in French sperm count should be considered global warning
by Liat Clark, wired.co.uk, 5 December 2012

A study revealing a significant decline in sperm concentration among French men should be considered a health warning, and could be linked to environmental factors, say its authors.

The paper, published in the journal Human Reproduction, calculated the results after comparing 26,600 samples from France's national register on in vitro fertilisation. The samples, derived from 126 assisted reproduction technology (ART) centres in France, covered the period 1989 to 2005 and were all from men whose partners had chosen in vitro because their fallopian tubes were blocked or missing -- the man's sperm was not considered an issue in any of these cases. This latter point is important because many male fertility studies have, over the years, solely analysed men with pre-existing fertility problems; this study should therefore be a truer representation of the wider population.

Is There a Connection Between Autism and Electromagnetic Radiation?

Advice to pregnant women :  keep cell phone
use to an absolute minimum and do not
place a wireless-connected laptop  on your lap !

Research suggests a possible correlation between autism incidence and an environmental toxin known as radiofrequency (RF) radiation. It is known that human exposure to RF radiation has increased during the past 20 years. It is suggested that fetal or neo-natal exposures to RF radiation may be associated with an increased incidence of autism. The increase in exposure to RF radiation from all of the wireless devices in our lives in combination with environmental and genetic factors is creating the perfect storm to increase the incidence of autism, now  seen in about 1 per 110 children.

Is There a Connection Between Autism and Electromagnetic Radiation?
The New Autism, 28 November 2012

Research has established a potential link between autism and fetal/neonatal exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation. Based on epidemiological data, there has been a dramatic increase in the incidence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Recent evidence indicates the incidence of ASD to be roughly 1 per 110 children.

Pets With Microchip Implants Develop Fast-Growing, Lethal Tumors

A five-year-old male Bullmastiff named Seamus died in February, nine months after developing a "hemangio-sarcoma" --- a rare, malignant form of cancer that strikes connective tissues and can kill even humans in three to six months. The tumor appeared last May between the dog's shoulder blades where a microchip had been implanted; by September, a "large mass" had grown with the potential to spread to the lungs, liver and spleen.

Chipped Pets Develop Fast-Growing, Lethal Tumors

Owners, Medical Reports Point to Link Between RFID Chips and Cancers in Canines

Highly aggressive tumors developed around the microchip implants of two American dogs, killing one of the pets and leaving the other terminally ill. Their owners --- and pathology and autopsy reports --- have suggested a link between the chips and the formation of the fast-growing cancers.

UPDATE on Atorvastatin (Generic Lipitor) Recall: Where did Contaminated Atorvastatin Come From?

Where Did Contaminated Atorvastatin Come From?
People's Pharmacy, 27 November 2012

By now you no doubt know that a generic formulation of Lipitor (atorvastatin) made by the Indian company Ranbaxy was contaminated with small glass particles. The company announced its recall last week and we were among the first to report on it. Here is a link to our initial story about the Ranbaxy recall of atorvastatin.

What was not available until a few days ago was information about where the problem atorvastatin was actually made. Ranbaxy has manufacturing plants in at least eight countries including India and the U.S. This Indian company is now owned in large part by a Japanese company (following the money trail gets complicated) and exports drugs to over 100 countries around the world.

Wireless Technology in Schools in Switzerland

High-tech facilities are invading
private schools
Letter of the Day published in the « Courrier des lecteurs », 24 Heures, 26 November 2012 :

An Example to Follow to Protect Our Children

Re article entitled, « Technology in school, an evolution which divides », 24 Heures, 13 November 2012

Wireless facilities « are invading » private schools, while the public sector in [canton] Vaud is hesitating. Maybe there are other reasons for the resistance of public schools to information technology. The electromagnetic emissions from wireless technology, classified as possibly carcinogenic by the World Health Organization, have numerous consequences for the health of children. Among other risks, Wi.Fi can affect masculine fertility and cause various neurological troubles in children. Do we want to expose our children to this radiation all week long for years?

Italian Supreme Court Affirms Tumor Risk from Long-Term Cell Phone Use: In-Depth Article

A more in-depth article on the Italian Supreme Court ruling granting worker’s compensation to a businessman who developed a tumor after using a cell phone for 12 years.

Italian Supreme Court Affirms Tumor Risk from Long-Term Use of a Cell Phone
Microwave News, 23 October 2012

ICEMS vs. ICNIRP; Hardell vs. Interphone

The Supreme Court of Italy has affirmed a ruling granting worker's compensation to a businessman who developed a tumor after using a cell phone for 12 years. This is the first time that a high court —in any country— has ruled in favor a link between mobile phone radiation and tumor development.

Innocente Marcolini, a financial manager at an industrial plant in Brescia in northern Italy, used cell and cordless phones for five-to-six hours a day for 12 years. Then one morning ten years ago, Marcolini, who was 50 years old at the time, sensed an unusual tingling in his chin while shaving. He was soon diagnosed as having a benign tumor on the trigeminal nerve, which controls facial muscles and sensations.

Students Thrive After College Head Bans Mobile Phones

With the mobile phone use ban at this school, reports of cyberbullying have dropped dramatically. This  ban has had a very positive effect on children at school.   A good example for schools to follow!

Students thrive as head bans mobile phones
by Telegraph reporters, 26 November 2012

Effect on pupils' learning 'dramatic' after school bans students from using mobile phones on campus.

Students at Burnage Media Arts College in Manchester are forbidden from using mobiles anywhere at any time on campus.

The ban was brought in after children disrupted lessons by texting and playing games on their phones. There were also concerns that pupils were cyber-bullying one another using texts and Blackberry messaging (BBM).

The Non-Thermal Effects of Radio Frequencies on Trees

"Photographic studies made in the Netherlands and throughout Europe has also shown a progressive increase in the occurrence of tumour-like growths beneath the bark of urban trees over the last decade or so, which corresponds in time to the increases usage of mobile phones and WiFi."

The Non-Thermal Effects of Radio Frequencies on Trees
by Dr. Andrew Goldsworthy, Lecturer in Biology (retired), Imperial College London

There is quite a lot of information on the non-thermal effects of radio frequencies on trees on the BEMRI website. See http://bemri.org/hese-uk/en/issues/nature1441.html?id=trees

What evidence is there for this? According to studies made in the 1990's on the effects of the VHF radar station at Skrunda in Latvia, the growth rings of trees were reduced during the period in which the station was operational and the pine needles made more resin (an indication of cellular stress). Incidentally, just for the record, a parallel study on the performance of schoolchildren in tests was significantly reduced in the main beam of the station compared with those in relative safety behind the antennas.

Documentary : Resonance - Beings of Frequency

The Director of the Wireless Electrical and Electromagnetic Pollution Initiative (WEEP) says this film "may be one of the most important documentaries ever produced."

Resonance - Beings of Frequency - by James Russell (1 hr. 28 min.)

RESONANCE is a sensational eye opening documentary which reveals the harm we are doing by existing in an ocean of man made wireless frequencies. Two billion years ago life first arrived on this planet; a planet, which was filled with a natural frequency. As life slowly evolved, it did so surrounded by this frequency. and inevitably, it began tuning in. By the time mankind arrived on earth an incredible relationship had been struck; a relationship that science is just beginning to comprehend. Research is showing that being exposed to this frequency is absolutely integral to us. It controls our mental and physical health, it synchronizes our circadian rhythms, and it aids our immune system and improves our sense of well-being. Not only are we surrounded by natural frequencies, our bodies are filled with them too. Our cells communicate using electromagnetic frequencies. Our brain emits a constant stream of frequencies and our DNA delivers instructions, using frequency waves. Without them we couldn't exist for more than a second. This delicate balance has taken billions of years to perfect. But over the last 25 years the harmony has been disturbed. and disturbed dramatically. Mankind has submerged itself in an ocean of artificial frequencies. They are all around us, filling the air and drowning out the earth's natural resonance. To the naked eye the planet appears to be the same. But at a cellular level it is the biggest change that life on earth has endured; the affects of which we are just starting to see and feel.

Former President of Microsoft Canada is Building a National Organization in Canada to Raise Public Awareness of the Potential Health Effects of Electromagnetic Radiation

Frank Clegg
Frank Clegg is the former President of Microsoft Canada. He is leading and building a national organization in Canada, Citizens for Safe Technology (C4ST) to raise public awareness of the potential health effects associated with electromagnetic radiation from wireless technology.

Introducing C4ST - Citizens For Safe Technology

As many of you are aware, I have been investing my time understanding the potential health effects associated with electromagnetic radiation. Issues such as emissions from cell towers, Wi-Fi in schools and smart meters. I have spoken to several experts, read numerous studies, attended presentations by Health Canada and Industry Canada and become involved in situations in Oakville, Grand Bend, Barrie and Uxbridge. I have concluded that Health Canada’s methods are out of date and safety limits are too weak to protect Canadians. China has limits that are 100 times stricter than ours. I worry we have a situation comparable to tobacco where Health Canada will be many years too late to take the appropriate action.

I have signed on to lead and build a national organization to raise public awareness of this issue. Our objective is to convince Industry Canada and Health Canada to change the process of distributing this technology and update their safety standards to acceptable levels. Please open the attached document to learn about this new national organization, C4ST – Citizens For Safe Technology. Join us in our goal of reaching 1 million Canadians to influence Industry Canada and Health Canada and help insure the health of all Canadians.

"Carcinogenic Technojunk" for Kids this Holiday Season

LeapFrog, LeapPad 2
Fourteen percent of Americans planned to give a LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet ($100) as a present, according to a Consumer Reports poll in 2011 . As one FB friend says about children's "learning tablets" – “more carcinogenic technojunk masquerading as educational tools”. We should write to consumer groups and toy manufacturers to remind them of their responsibility in protecting the health of children and the human rights and well-being of workers who make these gadgets in sweatshops in China. If the article on “cool new toy tablets” incites people to buy these for their kids, then they do not care at all about their child’s health.

Here is what “Consumer Reports” says about toy tablets:
Consumer Reports Talk About Toy Tablets(source: BSCKids, 9 December 2011)

“Consumer Reports have tested the latest in toy tablets. “Toy tablets don’t have all the whistles and bells that standard tablets do, but their learning apps and kid-friendly content make them ideal for children” said Paul Reynolds, electronic editor, Consumer Report. The tablets were put to trial by the Consumer Report’s lab to see how good they functioned and by children of the appropriate ages to see how much the kids were attracted to them. Each tablet has a color touch-screen display, a few loaded games, and apps. The tablets can be linked to a PC for new downloads and software upgrades. The Vici Tab is rechargable. The other tablets use AA batteries.

Atorvastatin (Generic Lipitor) Side Effects and Complications

Not only is there a problem with contaminated atorvastatin (generic Lipitor) but also it has serious side effects and complications.

Atorvastatin (Lipitor) Side Effects & Complications
People’s Pharmacy, 29 October 2012

It is not entirely clear why Lipitor became the most successful drug in the history of the pharmaceutical industry. Tens of millions of people have taken Lipitor to lower their bad LDL cholesterol. It is estimated that sales of this single drug brought in over $130 billion to Pfizer, its manufacturer. No other drug in history has ever come close to this mind boggling number.

Now that Lipitor has become available in its generic form as atorvastatin, it will no doubt continue to be taken by millions of patients, though the cost will clearly come down. Despite its popularity with physicians and its clear ability to bring cholesterol numbers down, there are some serious side effects to contend with. Many of these complications were not discovered until years after the drug was on the market.

Humanity's Challenge: The Winter Solstice of 2012

We are moving into the Year of the Snake,
where the Spleen energy field and the Heart
will move into prominence. These organ systems
cannot tolerate the assault of  artificial
electromagnetic fields.
With the roll-out of the Smart Meter Grid, “Americans are being unwittingly forced to participate in the rapid build out of a power grid based on faulty values of man-over-nature, man-over-time, and man-over-man beliefs. And, the primary targets of this aggression will be women and children, due to their heightened vulnerability to electromagnetic fields…

“[Either] we are living the closing chapter in a history of de-evolutionary choices, or we have reached the crucial turning point where the light of dawning consciousness turns humanity back to its rightful relationship with the true source of connection, power and energy… History will record the energetic tsunami in 2012 in one of two ways. We will unleash the largest wave of destructive technology ever known to mankind, or we will withdraw our energies from the consumer-driven model...”

I personally fear that we are indeed headed to destruction through our own greed for newer and better-performing technology, our ignorance of the health and ethical implications, and our lack of compassion for the vulnerability of more sensitive individuals, particularly children.

Smart Meters: The Winter Solstice Tsunami of 2012

Asia with single whisker on each side
Following is the first part of an article from about the effects of electromagnetic radiation generated by smart meters on a cat. The author, who took care of the cat, comments that “very few smart meter ratepayers are aware of the complexity of this new technology, and the resulting security, safety, and health hazards.” This is exactly the type of reaction we are experiencing from wireless technology users who, when told about potential risks are “disturbed”, surprised that there could be potential health effects - they never heard about this. Their reaction is that they do not want to know about it. They are mostly young people, growing up with this technology and using it all the time. They cannot see what could replace it. In the past we got along without having to talk on phones or accessing the Internet anywhere at any time. Young people do not know anything else and cannot do without this technology.

Smart Meters: The Winter Solstice Tsunami of 2012

During the summer of 2012, I housesat in Medfield, MA, a suburb of Boston. After a short time, I began feeling an in-rush of disruptive energy blanketing the neighborhood, inside the house and out, approximately every other hour, every day and night. I have felt this phenomenon before, on the West coast as well as the East, and because of it I have moved fourteen times in four years, without success.

Dr. Olle Johansson's Letter on Electrohypersensitivity (EHS)

Dr. Olle Johansson

Recently, André Fauteux, Editor of the Canadian magazine, "Maison du 21e siècle" asked Dr. Olle Johansson to send him the Swedish Government document confirming that electrosensitivity is a recognized functional impairment.  Here is Dr. Johansson's reply.

"In essence," he writes, "no official bodies or governments are needed to recognize any functional impairment. The presence or lack of EHS studies are not a prerequisite for any functional impairments, on the contrary. Impairments are viewed from the point of the environment.

"No human being is in itself impaired, there are instead shortcomings in the environment that cause the impairment. Thus, it is the environment that should be “treated”!

"One way is through the introduction of the proper biologically-based EMF human exposure guidelines. This environment-related impairment view means that even though one does not have a scientifically-based complete explanation for the impairment electrohypersensitivity, and in contrast to disagreements in the scientific society, the person with electrohypersensitivity shall always be met in a respectful way and with all necessary support with the single goal to eliminate the impairment."

World Health Organization Report on Fukushima a Travesty

A girl holds her petition to ask the Education Ministry to protect
people from radioactive contamination in Fukushima Prefecture.

The World Health Organisation has failed in its obligation to protect the public and is guilty of the crime of non-assistance.

WHO Report on Fukushima a Travesty
by Susie Greaves (Member of IndependentWHO, Réseau Sortir du Nucléaire, la CRIIRAD. Ms. Greaves is currently translating into English, Wladimir Tchertkoff’s book: The Crime of Chernobyl: the nuclear gulag, published in French by Actes Sud, in 2006.)

World Health Organisation subservient to nuclear lobby

The World Health Report (May 2012) entitled “Preliminary dose estimation from the nuclear accident after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami” [1] is a public relations exercise to reassure the world that WHO is fulfilling its role in the area of radiation and health. Following the preliminary dose estimation, WHO will complete a health risk assessment to “support the identification of needs and priorities for public health action.” But this report and the one to follow cannot help those people in Japan who should have been evacuated much sooner and who will certainly suffer health consequences of varying degrees from their exposure to radiation since March 2011.

13,000 People File Second Mass Complaint Against TEPCO

by Masakazu Honda, Staff Writer, Asahi Shimbun, 16 November 2012

More than 13,000 people have filed a criminal complaint against Japanese government officials, executives of Tokyo Electric Power Co. and experts for their roles in last year's disaster at TEPCO's Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.

A group of 13,262 complainants from around Japan filed the paperwork with the Fukushima District Public Prosecutors Office on Nov. 15. The group argued that the government and TEPCO executives did not take adequate safety measures, even though they could foresee that a major earthquake could spawn a tsunami and cause severe nuclear accidents.

The complainants said this constituted professional negligence resulting in deaths and injuries, and violated Japan's environmental laws by emitting substances harmful to human health.

Australian Pediatrician, Dr. Helen Caldicott, Speaks in Japan About the Effect of the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster on Children

Australian pediatrician, Dr. Helen Caldicott speaks in Japan about the effect of the Fukushima nuclear disaster on children. (Source:  Energy News, 20 November 2012)

“Some of these children almost certainly are bound to develop cancer of the thyroid. And indeed one 12 year old boy has already been diagnosed with it. And a girl aged about 16 may have already developed cancer. They are testing her now.

“It took 5 years for the children around Chernobyl to develop cancer. These children are showing symptoms and signs that they may well develop cancer in the future, indicating that they got a really high dose of radiation, higher than at Chernobyl. [...]

“I predict we’ll see an epidemic of leukemia and cancer and congenital malformations in this exposed population over the next 70 years or longer. [...]”

Testimony of Electrohypersensitivity : Phil Inkley, United Kingdom

Phil Inkley outside his caravan in the woods
Here is another testimony of a person from the United Kingdom living with electrohypersensitivity (EHS).   Phil Inkley says he first experienced symptoms of EHS around the time that Wi-Fi came along. He had been working as a sound technician and, being from a "techy" background, regularly fixed computers for family and friends. After a day working around strong Wi-Fi he would feel pressure at his temples and fluttering pains in his chest.  "Pressure at his temples" - this is exactly the unpleasant sensation I experience when in the public library reading room which has Wi-Fi.

The Too Frequent Use of Digital Media Reduces the Brain Capacity of Our Children, Warns Top German Neuroscientist

Psychiatrist and brain researcher Manfred Spitzer warns parents and educators

The neuroscientist and medical director of the Psychiatric University Hospital Ulm, Professor Manfred Spitzer, has recently written a best-selling book, “Digitale Demenz. Wie wir uns and unsere Kinder un den Verstand bringen” (“Digital dementia. How we drive us and our children mad”). Spitzer says that the too frequent use of Internet can make people dumb. He shows what parents, teachers and politicians can do to protect young people. Read the book review by Dr Rudolf Hänsel, qualified psychologist, Lindau/Germany, in full here on “Current Concerns”.

While Spitzer places emphasis on the social, neurological, and behavioral implications of over-exposure to digital media, he also goes into the physical consequences, but makes no mention of the electromagnetic radiation emitted by wireless technology. Spitzer presents a series of studies showing that insomnia, depression and addiction are extremely dangerous consequences of the use of digital media “whose impact on the overall health development of today’s young generation can hardly be overestimated”. He says that computers and the Internet do not belong in nursery schools and that this technology in the classroom, “leads to more superficial thinking, it distracts and has undesirable side effects, which range from mere disorders to child pornography and violence.”

What Spitzer says about Facebook should be widely quoted:
